Research overwhelmingly shows that simple, text-based study materials aren't effective tools for retentive learning. When it comes to CPR training — especially programs being offered online — we believe this standard is unacceptable.
As a core principle, each NHCC lesson is engineered to be interactive, animated, and (most importantly) visually engaging — ensuring that students not only learn the material, but retain it long after passing the exam.
We recognize that for many students, a key priority is earning their certification efficiently with approval from their employer, so they can return to work as soon as possible.
However, we strongly believe that efficiency can never come at the expense of depth or quality in a learning program. Luckily, we also know both are possible at once.
For this reason, NHCC commits to hand-building each of our courses from first principles of instructional design — ensuring students can learn efficiently without sacrificing what we believe matters most: Retention.
Often, traditional CPR programs force students to reschedule their class and restart from "zero" if they fail their first exam attempt. We feel this practice is harmful, as it incentivizes students to rapidly memorize information in order to achieve a passing score.
We believe the goal of a CPR program should be to encourage real-world retention of techniques — not to simply pass a pre-formatted test on the first try.
While many employers nationwide accept self-guided online programs, many professions and jurisdictions also require employees to complete a hands-on skill assessment with an instructor.
We believe CPR training programs (especially those offered online) have a duty to make hands-on assessments available for any student or organization that requires them.
And for organizations that don't, we believe training programs have a minimum responsibility to provide interactive web-based simulations that mirror the experience of practicing real-world CPR and AED techniques.
For these reasons, from day one, NHCC’s courses have been designed to both include interactive simulations and make hands-on assessments available to any student or organization that needs them — ensuring our graduates are never out of compliance with their employers’ workplace requirements.
